Transition from High School to College
College football coaches are notorious for making quick evaluations on new players. The old adage “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” is never truer than the first day of fall camp. Each day you show up for practice, treat it like it’s your last job interview.
Stay out of the training room. Trainers tell coaches who’s in there and why. Trainers and strength coaches can get you cut if they don’t respect you and you create an inordinate amount of maintenance for them.
Grade and evaluate yourself in three different categories after every practice (The Three A’s):
- Attendance – this reflects your durability and commitment
- Aptitude – this reflects your IQ and knowledge of your assignments
- Attitude – this reflects your passion for the game
None of these three categories requires any talent, but all three build trust with your coaches.
